Podiatry

Podiatrists and chiropodists complete a minimum of 3 years’ training, to diagnose and treat conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They can also treat and alleviate day-to-day foot problems including toenail problems, such as thickened toenails, fungal nail infections, ingrowing toenails and verrucas.

Some of the most common problems we successfully treat include:

  • Foot, ankle and knee pain
  • Lower limb sports injuries

A podiatrist trained in bio-mechanics, (the study of posture and walking), is able to provide gait analysis to check for flat foot and other problems. You may also be offered prescription orthotics (in-sole foot support). Foot malfunctions can be a major cause of problems in the lower back, hips and knees. In podiatric treatments padding and strapping may be provided where deemed necessary.

Patients can also be referred to other Private Registered Practitioners for surgical treatment of bone and joint problems such as bunions and hammer toes.

What to expect at your consultation

The initial podiatric consultation will involve a discussion with the patient relating to their symptoms and an examination. Where appropriate a temporary orthotic can be made and basic advice given.  Appointments last between 25-30 minutes.
